The centerpiece from my solo show at the Maine Jewish Museum, the "back side" of this reversible tunic is knit inside out. The inside or “guts” of the knitting is shown outside, obscuring the message within the work. This obscures and complicates the embedded message since what is inside gets distorted on the outside.
This handknit garment is an embodiment of anxiety and dissociation, and a processing of those feelings, cannibalizing them and expelling them outside of the body, through ritualistic handknitting.
